Definition of a good friend: A person who is there for you no matter what and shares a mutual bond. (There were a lot of definitions but I liked this one so.)
Now being a teenager I have had my fair share of friends who have come and gone out of my life, some in which I thought I would be friends for ever with but I haven’t spoken to in years and it’s sad but it’s part of life. Now I have only 1 or 2 people which I have been friends with for a long time my ride or dies, with one I have been friends with all my life. You know who you are. Now being a good friend isn’t just to be there for the good times, go to parties with and get drunk with to me that isn’t a true friend none the less a friend but not a true friend. To me a good friend are those people you truly trust and can depend on no matter the circumstance good or bad. Not people who are only there for the good and aren’t there for you to depend on when you are in a bad place or need some sort of comforting.
Now I hope I am a good friend and I hope people can trust to confide in me with their worries and stories but I know I would never abandon my friends in their time of need. I live by ‘treat people how you would like to be treated’. This really makes me think over my actions before I do it into whether I would want the same treatment and if no then don’t do it, same with ‘if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say it at all’ unless you are helping them in some sort of way.
Making time for your friends: Now everyone has busy lives and having to do everything at once as well as looking after yourself can be a challenge but if you really want to be friends with someone it shouldn’t be challenging to make time for them not if you really care for them, nowadays texting isn’t enough and saying you are constantly busy and then when you do finally meet up and you can’t think of anything you have actually done in the time apart just seems as though they are avoiding you. People’s actions and what they prioritise really have an impact on who they are as a person and if you are not one of their priorities in life then are they really are good friend to you?
My final thought on this matter elaborates on the fact of never feeling good enough for your friend or feeling second choice now I have felt like this with my friends at some point and there is no worse feeling than this in my opinion and it sucks. Or even them choosing someone else over you and always seeing them and never making time for you because they are busy doing their daily meet up with someone else when you haven’t seen them in nearly a month. This really makes me feel lonely and upset and I feel unimportant in some circumstances so if any of you have felt like that then I feel you!
